Lockdown Diaries

Not to sound cliched, but 2020 was one hell of a year and the entire world experienced it! Every activity that we were used to doing was brought to a grinding halt as top leaders and governments worldwide tried to wage a war against a microscopic being. And failed probably. The virus still got its victims.
As we approach it’s first anniversary; here are some things most of us encountered and lived through, besides dealing with a Pandemic.

  1. We were forced to sit at home and spend time with family

2. We couldn’t just ‘order in’ or ‘eat out’ and that made a big difference to our health

3. We learnt to appreciate our domestic help; most of us did

4. We learnt to never question what homemakers and stay-at-home moms did the entire day again

5. We accepted the fact that our kids will take a lot more screen time from now on and stopped cribbing about it

6. We learnt to dish out gourmet meals and our family learnt to appreciate home cooked food like never before

7. Some of us understood the need to smell the roses and some didn’t; and we learnt to differentiate between the two in our lives

8. Minimalism, we realised, isn’t just another fad…

9. … Yet, there’s no such thing as too many books, ever!

10. Noise pollution reduced for a while; and that was a time a few of us realised where our headaches were coming from…

11. Afternoon naps became a norm; and something we looked forward to.

12. Media and news agencies turned up to be the biggest disappointers ever.

13. We started valuing sports and outdoor activities a lot more.

The Pandemic, and subsequent total Lockdown for months taught us to count our blessings and value what we have… and be kind to the ones who are not as fortunate. And that’s a best lesson to take forward in the end.
